iPQ Career Planner iPhone App Gives Job Hunters an Inside Edge to Determine Their Best Career Match
SHLPreVisor Puts Corporate HR’s Top Employee Talent Assessment Test In The Hands of Applicants, Helping Identify Personal Strengths, Key Skills, and Most Suitable Careers – To Improve Success Rate of Applications and Interviews
ATLANTA, GA /PRNewswire/ ~~ SHLPreVisor, the global leader in talent assessment solutions, today released iPQ Career Planner, the first truly behavioral science-based personality and career assessment of its kind available on iTunes as a free downloadable iPhone and iPad app. Job seekers simply rank sets of statements that best describe them, and for $0.99 the iPQ Career Planner will quickly generate a report which identifies the most suitable careers for that user, as well as summaries of their key skills and strengths. This tool is a compact, mobile version of the same science and technology that corporations worldwide rely on SHLPreVisor for providing the “people intelligence” to help make decisions for recruiting and hiring, as well as executive development and succession planning.
“In today’s ultra-competitive job market, everyone needs an edge to help them stand-out and secure the job that’s right for them,” said Paul Levett, Chief Product Officer, SHLPreVisor. ”The iPQ Career Planner gives users personalized development assessments and advice to improve their chances of success with the application and interview process. People need to know what their strengths and weaknesses are in order to address them, and match their skills to the right job.”
SHLPreVisor is renowned for providing companies with the edge in selecting and retaining the best talent for their organizations, ensuring employees are the right fit for their job roles as much as for each company’s unique corporate culture. Now, with the iPQ Career Planner, SHLPreVisor is giving job seekers the ability to assess themselves, and gain that same insight – prior to any application submissions or interviews. The results of the iPQ Career Planner report will enable users to create more compelling cover letters and customized resumes, referencing their assessment results. Additionally, candidates will be able to provide accurate answers when asked typical interview questions such as strengths and weaknesses, rather than opting for clichéd or generalized responses – setting the stage for a more engaging and successful interview.
While the iPQ Career Planner can be used by anyone, the report is particularly ideal for recent graduates, those in the early stages of their professional careers, or those considering a career change, as it helps to pinpoint:
~~ Jobs most likely and least likely to be enjoyed ~~ An assessment of an individual’s key strengths and skills, to highlight during the recruitment and application process ~~ Aspects of a user’s personal style that will help or hinder during interviews, or in fulfilling a particular job role
Although friends and family may be willing to offer advice, the iPQ Career Planner is guaranteed to provide job seekers with objective responses to critical career questions, and unmatched insight on what type of career would best suit them, and how to get it.
“Our research shows that a positive recruitment experience is central to building and maintaining a good employer brand. So offering the convenience of mobile assessment tools to our clients and to their candidates is a way to amplify both sentiments,” said Robert Morgan, Chief Marketing Officer of SHLPreVisor. “The launch of iPQ Career Planner emphasizes our continued commitment to innovation, harnessing the talents of our global team to identify trends, leverage new technology, and help shape the way the corporate world can utilize people intelligence to make better talent management decisions.”

New Initiative by UPS to Expand Community College~Employer Partnerships Announced at Department of Education Community College Summit
Skills for America’s Future Announces Commitment by UPS to Help Train Workers, Expand Partnerships
WASHINGTON, DC /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ ~~ Skills for America’s Future, a national initiative to connect employers with community colleges to provide 21st century skills to American workers, today announced a significant commitment by UPS, the world’s largest package delivery company. The announcement was made at the US Department of Education’s Community College Summit in Indianapolis. As its commitment to Skills for America’s Future, UPS will institute a new Workforce Advisory Board to expand the career options for students in community college training programs, improve job placement rates and promote economic growth in local communities.
“Partnerships between community colleges and business are key to helping students move from the classroom to the workplace and careers,” said Arne Duncan, US Secretary of Education. “We applaud UPS and other corporate leaders for joining the Skills for America’s Future initiative announced by President Obama, as we all work together to educate our way to a better economy.”
Skills for America’s Future is a new initiative to link employers to community colleges and workforce partners, enabling students to have the skills necessary to find and retain jobs in a 21st Century Economy. Announced in October 2010 by President Obama, the effort has already received commitments from some of the nation’s leading employers including Accenture, Gap, Inc., Pacific Gas & Electric, McDonalds, and United Technology Corporation (UTC). The commitment by UPS to Skills for America’s Future was featured prominently during the US Department of Education’s third Community College Summit, held at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, Indiana.
UPS has trained more than 15,000 community college students with its Metro College Program at WorldPort, its Global Air Operations hub in Louisville, Kentucky, and its Chicagoland Regional College Program at its logistics hub in Chicago, as part of its public-private partnership with state and local governments and community colleges. UPS’ commitment to Skills for America’s Futurewill build on this success by creating a consortium of employers who will work with the community colleges to identify needed skills for the jobs of the future and hire the students once they have graduated.
“We are pleased to have this commitment from UPS, a global leader in its field. UPS has shown true dedication to helping train the American workforce, and its latest commitment to Skills for America’s Futureis another step towards that goal,” said Skills for America’s Future Chair and Chicago businesswoman Penny Pritzker. “Partnerships like this one between employers and community colleges are a win for students, a win for businesses, and a win for our economy. Skills for America’s Futurewill continue to help build similar, high-impact partnerships across the country.”
“Skills for America’s Future is the kind of innovative public-private effort that’s needed to encourage businesses to make bold efforts that will ensure Americans have the training and education to compete in the global marketplace,” said Teri McClure, UPS general counsel and senior vice president, Legal and Compliance. “At UPS, we are focused on economic development partnerships with state and local governments and community colleges that allow us to educate our workforce, provide skills for their future and enhance our communities.”
Currently, UPS provides tuition, book reimbursement, bonuses, and other benefits to UPS employees who attend the Metro College Program in Louisville and the Chicagoland Regional College Program. These partnerships have allowed UPS to remain and expand in existing locations, stabilized its workforce and provided an educated pool of employees for promotion.
UPS’ commitment to Skills for America’s Future will involve bringing more Louisville employers into the process, promoting career opportunity for community college students, and boosting local economic growth. Its Workforce Advisory Board Initiative will encourage students at Metropolitan College in Louisville to choose identified career tracks and academic plans that currently are in high demand by employers. Specifically, new employers will have an interactive role with the educational institutions to assist in identifying academic skills their companies need.
Skills for America’s Future, an initiative of the Aspen Institute, is a non-partisan partnership of businesses and community colleges. Its purpose is to address the dual problems of high unemployment and the difficulty many employers face in finding workers with the right skills by connecting employers to community colleges and workforce partners so students can be better equipped with the skills necessary to find and retain jobs in a 21st century economy.
UPS (NYSE: UPS) is a global leader in logistics, offering a broad range of solutions including the transportation of packages and freight, the facilitation of international trade, and the deployment of advanced technology to more efficiently manage the world of business. U.S. Small Business Owners Plan to Add 3.8M Jobs in 2011, According to Small Business Success Index
COLLEGE PARK, MD /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ ~~ U.S. small business owners say they plan to add nearly 3.8 million jobs this year, according to the latest Small Business Success Index, released by the Center for Excellence in Service at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and partner Network Solutions LLC. The semiannual index surveys small business owners to measure the overall health of their businesses and understand how they are using technology.
When asked about their hiring plans for 2011, 28 percent of small business owners surveyed said they expect to increase staffing by an average of two full-time employees. These owners report the main reason for the hires is to expand their businesses. But 69 percent of small business owners expect no change in their staffing level. Only 2 percent expect to lay off workers.
Though less than a third of small business owners plan to hire, the jobs they add could reduce the U.S. unemployment rate by 2.4 percentage points.
“Small businesses are the economic engine of the United States,” said Janet Wagner, director of the Center for Excellence in Service. “As they begin to hire again, owners need to focus on finding the right people to help grow their businesses. They need employees who understand customers’ needs and can provide the level of service that is so critical to the success of small enterprises.”
The survey asked respondents how well they compete with other companies for good employees, and only 46 percent said they are successful. According to owners, employees best suited for a small business environment are those that have experience working in other small businesses, have a flexible mindset, and a broad skill set.
The Small Business Success Index also measures business owners’ overall optimism, which according to the results, is currently rated a “C-” at a score of 73. This is unchanged since the last index was captured in June 2010. Those surveyed report difficulty in accessing capital and challenges in marketing and innovation. The survey also measures how small business owners are using technology, finding 31 percent are currently using social media, up from 24 percent a year ago and 12 percent two years ago.
The Small Business Success Index is measured with a telephone survey of 500 small business owners across the U.S., conducted in January 2011. Total jobs small businesses plan to add is an estimate based on survey responses and Census Bureau data that there are nearly 6 million businesses in the U.S. with fewer than 100 employees. This is the fifth wave of the index since data were first collected in December 2008. The full results are available at http://www.networksolutions.com/smallbusiness/.

Higher Education Job Openings and Employment Surge in 2010
STATE COLLEGE, PA /PRNewswire/ Advertisements for job openings in higher education surged 44.4 percent in 2010 compared to a decline of 27.2 percent in 2009, according to a new report from HigherEdJobs, the leading source for jobs and career information in academia. (http://www.higheredjobs.com/link.cfm?q=4&y=2010&id=3)
The growth in higher education job postings appears to be consistent with increases in the number of jobs for the sector. Higher education employment growth continued to follow historical trends during the fourth quarter of 2010, virtually unaffected by the national economic recovery or the recession that preceded it. Higher education employment grew 3.2 percent during Q4 and was up 3.1 percent for the year, both record highs since at least 2005.
The report also found that colleges and universities continued to focus on recruiting administrators and executives over faculty, a trend that began with the declared end of the recession. In absolute numbers, however, recruitment for all position types, including faculty, is up. Also, reliance on part-time positions — as manifested by increases in part-time job postings during the recession — has moderated as the economy begins to recover.
In addition, hiring and employment at community colleges continued to be strong in Q4 2010 and throughout 2010, although with changes in Congress, the recent focus on community colleges may fade.
From a geographic perspective, higher education job postings increased in all regions of the country, with the greatest growth observed in the Mountain and New England regions, and the weakest in the West South Central area.
The report examines job posting data from colleges and universities that have been continuously subscribed to the company’s unlimited posting plan for four years or longer, a cohort of over 700 schools, as well as data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
HigherEdJobs is the leading source for jobs and career information in academia. During 2010, more than 4,250 colleges and universities posted over 79,000 faculty, administrative and executive job postings to the company’s website. HigherEdJobs receives 900,000 unique visitors a month. HigherEdJobs is published by Internet Employment Linkage, Inc. and is headquartered in State College, PA.

Nearly 50 Percent of Employees Have Considered Leaving Their Current Jobs
According to a New MarketTools Study, Only One-Third of U.S. Employees ‘Very Satisfied’ with Their Jobs
SAN FRANCISCO, CA /PRNewswire/ With Employee Appreciation Day approaching on Friday, March 4, a new study released today by MarketTools, Inc., the leader in software and services for enterprise feedback management (EFM) and market research, revealed that most employees may not feel very appreciated. Nearly 50 percent of employees surveyed have considered leaving their current jobs, and 21 percent have applied for another job in the past six months. According to the study, salary was by far the leading cause of employee dissatisfaction, cited by 47 percent of the study participants. Other leading causes of dissatisfaction cited include workload (24 percent), lack of opportunities for advancement (21 percent), and the employee’s manager or supervisor (21 percent).
The study also found that nearly three-quarters (72 percent) of surveyed employees’ companies do not have a formal program to regularly solicit employee feedback, or the study participants weren’t aware of such a program. Of those companies that do solicit feedback from employees, more than 60 percent solicit feedback only quarterly or less often.
“A strong correlation exists between employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction, and ultimately, a company’s revenue and profitability,” said Justin Schuster, vice president of enterprise products at MarketTools, Inc. ”Leading companies turn to solutions such as MarketTools CustomerSat to measure employee feedback on a regular basis, giving them the actionable insight they need to keep their workforce motivated and performing at the highest levels. Satisfied, engaged employees provide a better customer experience that leads to customer satisfaction and loyalty.”
About the Study
MarketTools conducted the study in late February, 2011 using MarketTools ZoomPanel to survey American adults, age 21 and older, who are employed full-time. Completed surveys numbered 451. The study has a confidence level of 95 percent and a margin of error of +/- 5 percent. For complete survey results, please contact Andy Kill of Airfoil Public Relations at kill@airfoilpr.com or (650) 691-7311.

Robert Half Professional Employment Report Professional-Level Hiring to Remain Steady
MENLO PARK, CA /PRNewswire/ A net 5percent of executives interviewed for The Robert Half Professional Employment Report (http://www.roberthalf.us/per) said they expect to add full-time, professional-level employees in the second quarter of 2011. Nine percent plan to increase staff, while 4 percent anticipate declines. The net 5 percent projected increase is unchanged from the first-quarter survey, with most respondents, 86 percent, expecting to maintain current personnel levels.

While staffing levels are expected to remain consistent among most organizations, two fields saw quarter-over-quarter gains: marketing and sales/business development. The net hiring projection for each area increased by five points from the first-quarter outlook.
Across all fields, most executives remain optimistic about the future of their companies. Nearly all respondents (86 percent) said they were confident in their firms’ growth prospects; four in 10 (40 percent) are very confident.
The Robert Half Professional Employment Report is the first quarterly executive survey of its size and scope to focus exclusively on professional-level hiring. The survey is based on telephone interviews with more than 4,000 executives from a variety of fields(1) throughout the United States about their hiring plans and general level of optimism regarding the upcoming quarter.
Key Findings
– A net 5 percent of executives plan to add professional-level staff in the second quarter of 2011.
– Eighty-six percent of executives are at least somewhat confident in their organizations’ ability to grow in the second quarter; 40 percent are very confident.
– Thirty-seven percent of respondents(2) said it is challenging to find skilled professionals today.
– Businesses in the Mountain(3) states project the most hiring activity, with a net 11 percent of executives from this region planning to add professional-level staff in the second quarter.
– Companies in the wholesale sector expect the most active hiring in the second quarter. A net 15 percent of executives anticipate staff additions.
– The legal field is expected to see the strongest hiring, with a net 29 percent of lawyers planning to increase staff levels.
“While some firms remain conservative in their hiring outlook, others are finding they need to add staff to maintain adequate service levels,” said Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half International. “The need for marketing and business-development professionals could be an indication companies are anticipating business improvement and renewed demand for their products and services.”
Professional-Level Hiring – By Region
Survey respondents in the Mountain states predict the strongest hiring activity, with a net 11 percent of executives interviewedplanning to add staff. “Improving business and consumer confidence in many areas of the Mountain region is stimulating the hiring of professional-level employees, particularly in the healthcare and manufacturing sectors,” Messmer noted. “Companies in these states are increasing their use of temporary-to-full-time arrangements as a way to evaluate prospective new hires.”
Professional-Level Hiring – By Industry
Wholesale companies expect the most active hiring of any industry in the second quarter, with a net 15 percent of executives expecting to make staff additions.”As consumer demand steadily builds, wholesale firms need staff who can help manage the increased business volume,” said Brett Good, a Robert Half International district president. “In particular, companies are hiring employees to assist with financial transactions, such as accounts payable and receivable specialists and billing professionals.”
Executives in the retail sector also anticipate above-average hiring activity. A net 9 percent of retail executives said they plan to add staff.
Professional-Level Hiring – By Field
As they have for the past five quarters, respondents in the legal profession forecast the strongest hiring activity of all fields. Twenty-nine percent of lawyers interviewed for the report projected staff increases and none anticipated declines.
